Maryland has a strong record of being a pro-choice state and that makes us a target for attacks on reproductive freedom. An abortion ban in the form of a “fetal personhood” amendment to the Maryland Constitution has been introduced in the House of Delegates. This legislation is designed to ban abortion and challenge Roe v. Wade by granting legal rights from the beginning of “biological development.”

Last year we were able to defeat this measure, but we need your help to win again this year! Please make a donation to help us fight back against this anti-choice legislation.

Not only would this amendment ban abortion, but it could also restrict reproductive technologies like in vitro-fertilization and could even compromise access to birth control. In 1992, Maryland voters spoke loudly and clearly when they adopted constitutional protections for a woman’s right to choose. If passed, this provision banning abortion would be placed on the 2010 ballot. Similar efforts are underway in Colorado, Mississippi, Nevada, and many other states around the country.
