José Serrano of New York For 15 years, an arcane anti-choice law blocked the locally elected leaders of our nation's capital from deciding whether to use local funds to pay for abortion services for low-income women. But, under the leadership of Rep. José Serrano (NY-16) and other pro-choice allies in Congress, the House of Representatives voted to lift this ban—while rejecting anti-choice efforts to reinsert it. The Senate will take up this issue in the fall, and we'll be counting on you to help pro-choice leaders like Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin seal the deal to secure this victory for women's reproductive freedom in D.C. Jan Brewer of Arizona We wag our finger this month at the new anti-choice governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, who abruptly reversed predecessor Janet Napolitano's commonsense pro-choice tradition. Gov. Brewer signed into law a series of anti-choice measures designed to block women's access to basic reproductive-health care. NARAL Pro-Choice Arizona fought hard to block the bill, and we commend our affiliate for its continued dedication in the face of these new challenges.
